A quick and easy summer drink combining sweet watermelon, tangy lime, and a spicy cayenne kick for a refreshing icy treat perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups diced seedless watermelon (about 600 grams)
  • Juice of 23 fresh limes (about 3 tablespoons or 45 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional, can substitute honey or agave syrup)
  • 2 cups ice cubes (about 475 ml)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (about 1/8 teaspoon)
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups of seedless watermelon into small cubes. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes if desired.
  2. Roll 2-3 limes on the counter, cut in half, and squeeze out fresh lime juice (about 3 tablespoons). Set aside.
  3. Add watermelon cubes, lime juice, sugar, cayenne pepper, and ice cubes into a blender.
  4. Pulse a few times to break up the ice, then blend on high for 30-45 seconds until smooth and slushie-like. Add a splash of cold water or lime soda if too thick.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or lime juice if needed, pulsing briefly again.
  6. Pour into tall glasses and garnish with fresh mint leaves or a lime wedge. Serve immediately with a straw or spoon.

Notes

Use ripe watermelon for best flavor. Adjust cayenne pepper carefully to avoid overpowering heat. Crushed ice blends smoother than cubes. Chill watermelon and limes beforehand for better icy texture. Blend in short bursts to avoid warming the mixture. For a fizzy twist, add sparkling water. Can prepare watermelon-lime mix ahead and freeze without ice.
