These vibrant red, white, and blue layered vodka jello shots are a quick and easy party treat that captures festive flavor and fun. Perfect for patriotic celebrations, they offer a smooth, bouncy texture with a subtle zing from lemon juice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 packet (3 oz/85 g) cherry gelatin mix
  • 1 packet (3 oz/85 g) blue raspberry gelatin mix
  • 2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water (divided)
  • 3/4 cup cold water (divided)
  • 3/4 cup vodka (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: In a medium heatproof bowl, stir 1/2 cup boiling water into 1 packet cherry gelatin mix until fully dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add 1/4 cup cold water and 1/4 cup vodka, stirring gently.
  2. Pour the red mixture evenly into shot cups, filling each about one-third full. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until the layer is firm but slightly tacky.
  3. Make the White Layer: In another bowl, combine 1/2 cup boiling water with 2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin powder. Stir well until dissolved.
  4. Add 1/4 cup cold water, 1/4 cup vodka, 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon sugar (if using). Mix gently.
  5. Carefully spoon the white mixture over the set red layer, filling another one-third of each cup. Chill again for 30 minutes until set but still tacky.
  6. Prepare the Blue Layer: Dissolve 1 packet blue raspberry gelatin mix in 1/2 cup boiling water. Stir in 1/4 cup cold water and 1/4 cup vodka.
  7. Slowly pour over the white layer to fill the cups to the top. Return to the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to fully set.
  8. Serving: Once set, peel off the lids or unmold the jello shots carefully. The layers should be distinct with vibrant red, white, and blue colors and a smooth, bouncy texture.
  9. If any layer looks uneven, a gentle tap on the counter before refrigerating helps level the gelatin.

Notes

Avoid stirring vigorously after adding vodka to prevent bubbles and cloudiness. Timing each layer’s chill is key to prevent mixing or weak adhesion. Rinse silicone molds with cold water before pouring gelatin for easy release. Use a spoon to pour layers slowly to avoid breaking the previous layer.
