A smoky, spicy, and creamy buffalo chicken dip served in a hollowed-out sourdough bowl, perfect for quick parties and gatherings. This dip combines chipotle peppers in adobo sauce with classic buffalo flavors for a bold and addictive snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups shredded rotisserie or cooked chicken breast
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (120 ml) mayonnaise
  • ½ cup (120 ml) buffalo sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, finely chopped plus 1 tablespoon of sauce
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded Monterey Jack or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives or green onions, chopped (optional garnish)
  • 1 medium round sourdough loaf (810 inches diameter)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice off the top of the sourdough loaf (about 1.5 inches from the top). Hollow out the inside, leaving about a 1-inch thick wall all around to hold the dip. Save the removed bread for toasting.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, buffalo sauce, chopped chipotle peppers with adobo sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until creamy and smooth.
  4. Fold in shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, and Monterey Jack or mozzarella cheese until evenly incorporated.
  5. Spoon the dip mixture into the hollowed-out sourdough loaf, pressing lightly to fill all spaces and spread evenly on top.
  6. Place the filled sourdough bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until the dip is bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden brown.
  7. Toast the reserved bread chunks on a baking sheet for 5-7 minutes at 375°F (190°C) while the dip bakes.
  8. Remove the dip from the oven, sprinkle with fresh chives or green onions, and serve immediately with toasted bread chunks, celery sticks, carrot batons, or tortilla chips.

Notes

If dip is too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk or extra buffalo sauce before baking for creamier texture. Toast bread chunks for crispy dippers. Use rotisserie chicken for convenience. For dairy-free, substitute cream cheese and shredded cheeses with plant-based alternatives. Adjust chipotle and buffalo sauce quantities to control heat level. Can be prepared in a slow cooker on low for 2 hours as an alternative method.
