A quick and easy creamy layered dessert salad combining salty pretzels, sweet pineapple, and fluffy whipped topping for a satisfying treat perfect for potlucks and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups mini pretzels or broken pretzel sticks
  • 20 ounces canned crushed pineapple, drained (reserve 2 tablespoons juice)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 ounces whipped topping (e.g., Cool Whip), dairy-free option if needed
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Drain the canned crushed pineapple in a colander, reserving about 2 tablespoons of the juice.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth using an electric mixer.
  3. Gradually add powdered sugar and reserved pineapple juice to the cream cheese and beat until creamy and lump-free.
  4. Gently fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture using a spatula to keep it light and airy.
  5. In a 9×13-inch dish, layer 1.5 cups of pretzels evenly.
  6. Spread half of the cream cheese and whipped topping mixture over the pretzels.
  7. Sprinkle half of the drained crushed pineapple evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  8. Repeat layering with remaining pretzels, cream cheese mixture, and pineapple.
  9. If using, sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
  10. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow flavors to meld and pretzels to soften slightly while staying crunchy.
  11. Serve chilled, spooning out portions to include all layers.

Notes

Do not skip draining the pineapple well to avoid soggy pretzels. Fold whipped topping gently to maintain fluffiness. Chilling for at least 2 hours is crucial for flavor melding and texture. For vegan or dairy-free versions, use dairy-free cream cheese and whipped topping. Gluten-free pretzels can be substituted for gluten-free needs.
