A quick and easy snack featuring cocktail-sized hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent dough with sharp cheddar cheese and finely chopped jalapeños, brushed with garlic butter for a golden crust and a spicy, cheesy twist.

  • 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 oz / 226 g)
  • 8 cocktail-sized hot dogs or mini sausages (about 12 oz / 340 g)
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (about 4 oz / 115 g)
  • 12 fresh jalapeño peppers, finely chopped (seeds removed for milder heat)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Prepare jalapeños by slicing off stems, halving lengthwise, removing seeds if desired, and finely chopping.
  3. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, garlic powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper.
  4. Unroll crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles on a clean surface.
  5. On each triangle, sprinkle about 1 tablespoon shredded cheddar cheese and 1 teaspoon chopped jalapeños.
  6. Place one cocktail hot dog at the wide end of each triangle.
  7. Roll dough tightly around the hot dog and cheese, tucking edges underneath to seal.
  8. Place rolled pigs in a blanket on the baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
  9. Brush tops generously with the garlic butter mixture.
  10. Bake for 15-18 minutes until dough is puffed and golden brown and cheese bubbles.
  11. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

If dough browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil halfway through baking. Chill dough if too sticky. Remove jalapeño seeds for milder heat. Can substitute pickled jalapeños or mild green chilies. For gluten-free, use almond flour crescent dough or gluten-free puff pastry. Cheese alternatives include pepper jack, mozzarella, or vegan cheese. Store leftovers in airtight container refrigerated up to 3 days; reheat in oven at 350°F for 8-10 minutes.
