Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (5 oz / 140 g) can of tuna in water, drained well
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise (use vegan mayo if preferred)
  • 1 tbsp sriracha sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped green onions
  • 1 tsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 1/2 tsp freshly grated ginger (optional)
  • 4 large flour tortillas (10-inch size)
  • 1 cup crispy wonton strips or homemade fried wontons
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce or finely chopped cabbage
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese (optional)
  • 1 medium avocado, sliced or mashed
  • Optional extras: pickled jalapeños, fresh cilantro leaves, lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Spicy Tuna Filling: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, sriracha, toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, green onions, and grated ginger. Mix gently until evenly combined but still chunky. Adjust sriracha or soy sauce to taste.
  2. Warm the Tortillas: Heat each flour tortilla in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds per side until pliable.
  3. Assemble the Wraps: Lay a warm tortilla flat. Spoon about 1/4 cup (60 ml) of the spicy tuna mixture onto the center. Add shredded lettuce or cabbage, shredded cheese, crispy wonton strips, and avocado slices. Add pickled jalapeños or cilantro if desired. Avoid overfilling.
  4. Fold the Wrap: Fold the edges of the tortilla inward towards the center, overlapping like a burrito or hexagon to enclose the filling completely.
  5. Crisp the Wrap: Heat a lightly oiled non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the wrap seam side down and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy, flipping gently with a spatula.
  6. Serve Warm: Remove from skillet, let rest for a minute, then slice in half. Serve with lime wedges or extra sriracha if desired.

Notes

Do not overmix the tuna to keep chunks intact. Warm tortillas well to prevent cracking. Add wontons last to keep them crispy. Use medium heat when crisping to avoid burning. For gluten-free, substitute flour tortillas with corn or gluten-free wraps and use tamari instead of soy sauce. For vegan, replace tuna with mashed chickpeas or spiced tofu and use vegan mayo.
