Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine sour cream and ranch dressing mix until fully incorporated.
  4. Add cooked chicken to the ranch mixture if using, and toss gently to coat.
  5. Layer half of the frozen tater tots evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Spread the ranch and chicken mixture evenly over the tater tots.
  7. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the ranch layer.
  8. Top with the remaining tater tots, arranging to cover the cheese layer.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese over the top layer of tater tots.
  10. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until tater tots are golden and crispy and cheese is bubbly and browned in spots.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
