A quick and easy chicken parmesan recipe made in the air fryer for a crispy, golden crust with melty cheese and tangy marinara sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights and comforting family dinners.

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, pounded to even thickness
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • Olive oil spray
  • Garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pound the chicken breasts to about 1/2 inch thickness using a meat mallet or rolling pin.
  2. Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour seasoned with salt and pepper, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.
  3. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, shaking off excess, then dip into beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb-Parmesan mixture. Set aside on a plate.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3 minutes.
  5. Lightly spray both sides of each breaded chicken breast with olive oil spray. Arrange in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overlapping.
  6. Cook for 10 minutes, then flip carefully, spray again, and cook for an additional 5 minutes until golden and crisp and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Remove chicken from air fryer, place a slice of mozzarella on each breast, and return to air fryer for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese.
  8. Warm marinara sauce on the stovetop or microwave.
  9. Serve chicken topped with warm marinara sauce and garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed. Flip chicken halfway through cooking for even browning. Lightly spray with olive oil for extra crispness. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer to maintain crispiness. For gluten-free, substitute flour and breadcrumbs with almond flour or gluten-free panko. For dairy-free, use vegan cheese and check marinara ingredients.
