A quick and easy homemade creamy shamrock shake with a perfect balance of minty freshness and creamy sweetness, topped with fluffy whipped cream. Perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or any festive occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480 ml) vanilla ice cream (preferably full-fat, e.g., Häagen-Dazs or Ben & Jerry’s)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (can substitute almond or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
  • 12 tablespoons granulated sugar (optional, depending on ice cream sweetness)
  • A few drops green food coloring (optional)
  • Whipped cream (homemade or store-bought, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Gather your ingredients and measure out 2 cups of vanilla ice cream and 1 cup of whole milk.
  2. Place the ice cream and milk in the blender, starting with the ice cream at the bottom.
  3. Add 1/2 teaspoon of mint extract carefully.
  4. Add 1-2 tablespoons of granulated sugar if desired.
  5. Optionally add a few drops of green food coloring.
  6. Blend on medium-high speed for about 30 seconds until smooth and creamy.
  7. Taste and adjust mint extract or milk as needed.
  8. Pour the shake into chilled glasses.
  9. Top generously with whipped cream.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

Chill the blender jar and glasses beforehand to keep the shake cold longer. Measure mint extract carefully to avoid overpowering the flavor. Use full-fat vanilla ice cream for best texture. If the shake melts while serving, freeze briefly to firm up. Whipped cream can be homemade or store-bought.
